The Gospel called us to go and preach the Good News to everyone. And if you call yourself a Christian, that means ALL PEOPLE – regardless of their belief status. God showed me the world – from people who have a growing relationship with Christ to people who are on the fence to people who are completely against Him. I mingled with people I never thought to mingle with..
What’s my point? We go through life like it’s a battlefield sometimes. The world and all the people in it are flawed. Us versus the world. But these people you are dealing with – they have a story to tell. Each of them. Humanize the people you deal with. They hurt like you do, probably not at the same things. They laugh. They lose hope. They cry on the outside and inside. Too often, churches are caught up in the business of serving, converting and evangelizing that they fail to see the “who” in the “how”. Both words have the same 3 letters so that should be easy to remember.
It’s all about love really. It all boils down to love. The Bible is right. As generic as this may sound, the world is hungry for love – whether they realize it or not. And it’s hard for us to love other people when we are shrouded by our own needs. But isn’t that what we’re called to do? Deny ourselves, take up our daily cross and follow Him. It’s so easy to be selfish in a world that celebrates “It’s all about me” mantra. So easy to be hardened by the circumstances of daily life. So easy to lose hope when everything around you is temporary and withered. So easy to be angry when life all around you is unfair. So easy to complain when you don’t get your way. So easy to blame when things fall apart.
But crosses aren’t meant to be easy.
The Christian life will never be easy. Christians will never have it easy on this side of heaven. But following Christ means we are never alone. Anything you get easily may probably not be valued much. But a Christian who is sharpened by fire and still chooses to be joyful – that’s something you don’t see everyday. It’s something the world will stop and look at.
Love will revolutionize everything. To truly love, to truly care for someone more than your own self. It’s potent. It’s powerful. It’s NOT easy. But.. it can change everything.
The challenge is to look beyond your own story and hear them out. Because God sees them. God longs for them to know Him. And as a Christian, that is where we come in.
How can God use you today?
